Winter Wedding Styling
The shoot took place across the pennines at the smart and highly accomplished restaurant with rooms, Hipping Hall. This intimate and luxury 17th century Country House is nestled at the foot of Gragareth, the highest point in Lancashire, and is surrounded by 12 acres of beautiful gardens and breathtaking grounds.
We have first hand knowledge that the tasting menu hits all the high notes courtesy of Head Chef and recent Masterchef finalist Oli Martin. Plus, this grand dining room is just glorious.
One of our first tips for winter wedding styling is to have plenty of seasonal foliage – and antique wooden furniture looks great if available! We hope that there is a log fire burning in the background, chestnuts roasting, holly, mistletoe… you get the gist! Bring the outdoors in and get creative!
Wedding Colour Palette
Our second tip is to contrast bold colours with pale palettes. In terms of appearance, an ivory faux-fur for cosiness and pale, natural makeup looks great. Team the look with a statement lip for the evening or a show-stopping bouquet to add that pop of colour. Suits might want to go bold with a tweed striped affair or add some flair with a crimson bow tie.
Romantic Wedding Decor
Our third top tip is to evoke a sense of sparkling snow and starry nights. We love the glow of these lights, courtesy of Typical Type, and the hanging festive floral fronds. Winter weddings shout ROMANCE in the most elegant way imaginable.
Wedding Comfort Food (and Drink!)
Our fourth tip is to allow winter to take the lead on food and drink. Comfort food can reign at this time of year. These sharing platters of nibbles are the essence of winter cheer, and allow guests to break the ice too. Pass that fudge over this way, pleeease! A fancy hot chocolate station never goes amiss too.
Winter Wedding Dresses
Our incredible featured boutique Legend Bridal Designs volunteered two wonderful wedding dresses. Winter wedding need not mean long sleeves with thermals underneath (we’re joking, obviously – but you catch the drift, even if snow is a no-show). Below is an exquisite wedding day dress. The gown is Lyra, with Altair shoulder jewellery. It’s sooo pretty. A star is (definitely) born!
We acknowledge that most dresses will look good on a model leaning against beautiful classical columns, but this one practically spells F-A-I-R-Y-T-A-L-E! Teamed with an elegant jacket for warmth and practicality, all grandparents can rest easy. Yes, she is going out LIKE THAT.The shoulder beading exudes an air of confidence and graceful style. It really is all about the small details sometimes. The look of the Lyra gown changes completely with the addition of the décolletage decor. NOTE: Husky not included, but he definitely adds to that winter wonderland vibe! We’re in love!
Come evening time, how about clean lines and sparkles? From dreamy-day to sophisticated-soiree with this amazing Ara number. The back beading is simply sensational!
Winter Wedding Flowers
With that visual spoiler, what about those flowers? As Pantone’s colour of the year ultra-violet fades (to welcome in Living Coral), let it sing! Thank you Katie Laura Ashton for these incredible bouquets, free-spirited flowers and foliage fantasia! For opulent purples look no further!
For a true day to night transformation, why not add a decadent second bouquet?! It’s up to you which way you do it but we’re fans of….
Pretty in hand-tied pink for day…
… and portent and purple for the evening!
Wedding Hair and Makeup
Let them eat WEDDING CAKE!
Finally, add some winter essence to a centre-stage wedding cake. Patisserie-pros Poppy Pickering Cakes dazzled us with this sparkling show-stoppers. We love the glittering gold and contrast of pale pink and crimson roses.
