There are places that just feel right on arrival. Homes we are destined to buy, towns we choose to live in or even holiday destinations that we don’t want to leave (ever!). This time we have the pleasure of featuring the wedding of Emma and Chris, who chose to have a Holmes Mill wedding. Set in pretty Clitheroe, Holmes Mill is, in their words, “beautiful, yet natural and relaxed.” Emma and Chris felt that a Holmes Mill wedding would allow guests to celebrate with them and let loose.
We get it. Holmes Mill effortlessly oozes charm, and is stylish and slightly quirky too. We can see why it was just right for Emma & Chris.
Let’s rewind! How did their Holmes Mill wedding happen?
Going back to the beginning, Emma and Chris met on a night out. Chris sought assistance in finishing a quote from Wayne’s World. Emma knew the answer and their worlds collided! “Excellent!”
Each year Emma and Chris celebrated at the same restaurant. Year 5 saw Chris behaving rather strangely. All was worth it when the dessert came out with a ring in the middle of the plate (err, jewellery and pudding?!! Need we say any more?). Chris got down on one knee and asked the time old question.
Wedding Day Wishlist
This couple did not want anything too fancy. They wanted to have a day that their families would also really enjoy. They wanted a venue that everyone could relax in. They also knew that they did not want a traditional wedding in a traditional venue. Might we add that they both love beer, and Holmes Mill has its own brewery too?! Ticking all the right boxes, Emma and Chris instantly fell in love with having a Holmes Mill wedding at its open day, and booked it there and then!
In keeping with having a less formal approach to the day, Emma and Chris opted for a buffet that was catered by Holmes Mill. They chose a ‘pit roast’ with burgers, chicken, sausages and wedges. The groom’s Dad made this impressive and very professional looking cake!
Wedding Looks and Locks
Emma bought her dress from WED2B. She took her Mum, Nanna and maid of honour to look at a particular dress that she had seen on the website. When her Mum picked out a certain dress, Emma initially refused to try it on. Mum knows best, or in Emma’s words, “She eventually wore me down!” When Emma tried it on, she knew it was the one. Seeing Emma got Mum all teary too!
Emma accessorised with a star tiara from Gg’s Pin-up Couture and a necklace from the high street.
She also rocked a bespoke leather jacket handpainted to say Mrs H! It’s the little details!
As for hair and make-up, Cassie at Bridalised Hair rose to the occasion. Emma wanted a classic pin up look with red lips and bold eyeliner. She wore a wrap-around plait to keep her fringe up. Cassie gets a big thumbs up from Emma and us too!
We love that Emma and her 3 bridesmaids all wore Converse footwear and the groomsmen donned Star Wars cufflinks from eBay and suits from Slaters in Preston.
Flowers and Decor
The couple wanted natural decorations, with lots of flowers. We are told that Sweet Pea Floristry were fantastic and decorated the venue beautifully with wild looking flowers, foliage and lots of vivid colours.
Pictures, Entertainment and Favours
The photography is the work of the talented How to I Do featured photographer Jo Boulton. Entertainment was provided by The DBS Partyband. It appears to us that Jo certainly captured the day with style and flair, and that everyone had a ball.
Favours were well-chosen for a wedding in a brewery! They were especially thoughtful for the hard-drinking guests (we hear that one bridesmaid was particularly partial to the wedding tipples!). Emma and Chris made ‘Oh Shit’ hangover cure kits (excuse the French!). Can’t say fairer than that!
The Best Bits and Wise Words
Emma recognises her Dad’s speech as one of her treasured memories. She tells us that her Dad is naturally nervous but he blew everyone away with his speech and made her very proud.
Finally, Emma and Chris remind us all that in planning a wedding: “Don’t sweat about the small stuff and remember to enjoy it!”
Thank you to the happy couple for allowing us to share this happy and homely Holmes Mill wedding!
