Today is ALL about Julia and Mike and the wonderful suppliers (most of which feature on How to I Do by the way!) that helped create their beautiful Belle Epoque wedding. So, sit back, and most of all, enjoy….

The Proposal

We love it when romance arrives unexpectedly. Mike, originally a Mancunian, moved across the pond to the US in 2013, where he decided to join a kickball team. There he met fellow team mate Julia and their friendship developed into something more.

The pair became a couple and Mike popped the question at their home, having created candlelight, scattered rose petals and after cooking all of Julia’s favourite foods. Needless to say, Julia said YES. Mike even recorded the proposal on his video camera so they could relive the magic.

Their Belle Epoque Wedding

The couple knew that they didn’t want anything too formal or fussy – just their close friends and family in a unique setting.

With Julia in the States, Mike chose one of our featured venues, The Belle Époque, in the quaint Cheshire town of Knutsford. Julia tells us that she loved the history and characterful style of this venue, with its quirky features and rich colour palette. An added bonus was that the venue could be hired exclusively and guests could stay there. Despite not seeing wedding venue until days before their big day, Julia was delighted with Mike’s choice. Phew!

The Outfits

Julia tells us she originally wanted a vintage, 1920’s look with lace detailing and three-quarter length sleeves. However, she fell in love with a simple,  elegant number from BHLDN, with no beads, lace or sleeves in sight.

Julia accessorised with her grandmother’s pearl necklace and delicate gold watch. She also wore flats from Betsey Johnson, so she could dance all night long, and a faux fur bolero since it was the middle of winter. Boy, did she look chic!

Mike purchased his stylish suit from another of our featured suppliers Whitfield and Ward. In the words of his new wife, he looked, “So dapper”. We respectfully agree.

Bridal Hair and Makeup

Rebecca Wilson from Jodie A Smith‘s hair and makeup team beautified Julia for her special day. Julia wanted a natural makeup look and for her hair to be relaxed and swept back off her face. Great job, Rebecca.

Flowers and Decor

For all things floral the couple enlisted the help of another of our featured suppliers, Kat from Perfect Bouquet Full of Flowers. Julia wanted a natural and boho vibe and to embrace the autumnal colours, so there were flowers in burgundy, peach, creams, blush and foliage in dark green. Julia was wowed; in her words, “[Kat] absolutely stunned me!”.

The Belle Epoque is bursting with charm, which the couple decided to enhance with splashes of gold. They achieved this via vintage gold frames and candlesticks.

The couple added menu and place cards from Minted and a polaroid picture and cigar station, all in keeping with their gold and autumnal theme.

Food, Drink & Floral Favours

The Belle Epoque took care of the catering including canapés, the wedding breakfast and an evening meal.

Chesire Wedding Cakes took charge of the wedding cake. Three delicious tiers of double chocolate, carrot cake and chocolate orange sponge. De-lic-ious!

This couple came up with a bloomin’ marvellous idea for their wedding favours. They had a ‘make your own bouquet’ table which was full of loose florals. Guests would then arrange their flowers in a small vase to take home.

They also had silver bottle openers to keep as a memento from the day.

The Entertainment

This wedding is full of some of How to I Do‘s favourites and we’re pleased to see that another one of our businesses was hired to keep guests dancing the night away. Gillan Edgar Music added his statement ‘vintage edge’ to the classics and the currents and made sure that the dance floor rocked all night long.

The Photographer

Rebecca Parsons Photography captured these fantastic shots. The couple said, “She was amazing!”.

Best Bits and Words of Advice?!

The couple loved that everyone was on the dance floor (thanks to Gillan!) all night and had a grand old time.

In their wedding vision, the couple wanted their Belle Epoque Wedding to be filled with fun and love without any stress. It was a huge success. They told us: “We enjoyed the day from start to finish with no worries.”  Their advice? “Don’t sweat about the small stuff, it is all about being with your family and friends.”

Cheers to that!
